The Production Control Engineer ensures the health and stability of the batch scheduling application as well as the batch schedules, by providing technical, operational support and guidance for the production processing environment and production control team. This role influences and enforces Production Control policies, procedures and standards established by the Supervisor and/or Manager regarding problems and changes. This individual is also responsible for the engineering and development of a holistic view of batch processing windows to determine critical path, capacity, and system limitations.

A Production Control Engineer is responsible for producing, documenting and delivering automated solutions and /or implementing purchased solutions in Grainger’s Operations environment according to best practices.

As well as researching and implementing best practices around new automation solutions to enhance batch scheduling and refine established procedures and policies. As an Engineer, this individual will ensure that deliverables are met and meet the project’s technical requirements and business objectives.

Major responsibilities and duties:

• Develop automated systems solutions such that assignments are completed on time, ensuring that they meet customer requirements and company standards utilizing the software available.

• Illustrate subject matter expertise in the workload automation space with a complete knowledge of the enterprise scheduler environment and assistance to application support personnel, technical support personnel or users in relation to processes, procedures and responsibilities of the Production Control area.

• Perform systems analysis, create reports and presentation materials and design functions in relation to automated systems development.

• Strong customer focus

• Ability to work independently and prioritize among multiple demands for service

• Provides timely resolution of production problems and maintains the integrity of the production environment.

• Ability to be a technical interface to internal and external teams to provide innovative and efficient approach to scheduling complex batch processes.

• Provides input into the overall direction and standards for the Production Control area.

• Owns the capacity planning and life-cycle of the Production Control area.

• Leads cross- functional batch scheduling initiatives and projects.

• Leads system refresh/copy projects, as well as further development of automation of the refresh/copy processes.

• Liaison between administrative, application development and level 1 and 2 batch scheduling teams.

• Prepares, conducts and evaluates the results of system testing.

• Identify possible system improvements and implement with approval of their direct report.

• Assist in the transfer of business and application knowledge.

• Advise and mentor Global team members about process improvements, reusable components and other performance-enhancing techniques.

• Proactively builds working relationships with business partners and I/S personnel for solving work-related issues.

• Ensure Service Level Agreements are met for applications supported.

• Follow up on production control issues from daily change requests

• Ensure daily scheduling requests are completed accurately and on time.

• Support Disaster Recovery tests

• This person will be seen as an informal leader / mentor to other team members

• 24 x 7 production environment support.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent related experience

• 7-10 year batch scheduling experience, preferably in a high volume and high availability environment.

• Working knowledge and use of the Redwood’s Cronacle software and System Copy Software

• SAP batch scheduling experience, preferably (SCM, BW, ECC, CRM, SRM, EWM, GTS)

• Experience in refreshing SAP environments.

• Ability so build and support new environments.

• SOX auditing/compliance experience.

• eCommerce batch scheduling experience, preferably Hybris.

• Fault analysis/determination and problem solving skills.

• Knowledge of and proficiency with various UNIX / Linux scripting languages.

• Ability to design, program and support the scheduling automation environment.

• Experience with multiple UNIX flavors, preferably Linux and Solaris.

• Experience with multiple database flavors, preferably Oracle, Oracle Exadata, S4/Hana, and Max Db.

• Understanding of and experience with the requirements for the high availability production environment, including 24 x7 support capabilities.

Mandatory-Hands on experience (at least 5 years) with a job/batch scheduling tool in an SAP environment.
