Job Description

Interactive Business Systems has partnered with a Dayton, OH company to locate a Data Center Storage Engineer for a contract position.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, track, process and resolve tickets and change requests per operational procedures.
  • Provide support, including hands on analysis to diagnose and repair system related failures.  Diagnose and resolve system issues in the data center facility.
  • Configure and install new equipment. Physical hands on activity working in the data center to rack, connect, and power equipment.
  • Reconfigure existing servers to meet workload growth demands.  Hands on activity in data centers to add components or reconfigure existing equipment to meet new workload requirements.
  • Work to fill cable plant needs such as running, tracing, and troubleshooting data cabling infrastructures in the centers.
  • Participate in periodic project related meetings and work sessions as a data center / facility subject matter expert to plan and facilitate service delivery as appropriate.
  • Maintain necessary documentation (rack diagrams, cabling spreadsheet) for data center.
  • Work directly with customers on complex, high profile, time sensitive move / add / change projects.
  • Mentor and serve as escalation point for junior level Hardware / Facilities and Global Operations engineers.
  • Work with all levels of management on continued service improvement of operations team.

Job Requirements

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

  • 5+ years’ experience with data center grade equipment including physically racking and cabling.

  • Understanding of operating systems (emphasis on Microsoft), applications, all characteristics/features of hardware being used, and system performance principles.

  • Ability to debug system problems and develop online procedures for execution of commonly used processes.

  • Thorough understanding of all system components and associated software products.  Familiarity with equipment hardware from HP, Dell, Nutanix, Arista, EMC, Netapp, Juniper, Citrix, APC, Solarwinds, Tanium, IBM, & Cisco.

  • Technical flexibility and versatility to effectively configure, install, upgrade, and troubleshoot various systems.

  • Good overall background on Storage, SAN, NAS, VMWare, Blade Centers, copper UTP cabling, fiber cabling, network switches and routers, firewalls, and configuration management.

  • Strong team orientation, customer focus, and communication skills are vital.

  • An understanding of data center best practices.

  • Motivation to work with team members on process creation and improvement.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple priority issues.

  • Proven leadership skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and client-facing situations.

  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently and as part of a team.  This is a mission critical position required to be on site during flexible hours.
